The second set of Adult Sea Ponies were by far more adventurous
and dare I say prettier than the first. Three of the six issued had a new
'looking up' pose, and the remaining three, though keeping to the old mould
had a streak of a different colour in their manes. Also, a new 'conch' shell
was introduced, which appeared to curl over. Please note that Sea Breeze
also had one of these shells, in aqua, only I don't have it in my collection
:-/.
Whether or not the six of them were ever sold in the UK is still under debate. In their favour, White Cap, Sea Mist, Sea Breeze and Wave Jumper all appear in the Fact File. Equally, I found my Sand Dollar here, and I have heard of a Sea Breeze being found here also. Equally, Whitecap and Sea Mist appeared briefly in comic stories. However, overall I feel that any of these ponies found in the UK were probably *not* sold here. It's difficult to be certain, mind you, since Hasbro's listing states only 'Sea Ponies' and doesn't give any names. None of them appear on any of the British My Little Pony advertising inserts. Please note that I have pictured Sea Mist and White Cap in the shells I have because this is how I have seen them Mint in Box on Ebay. However, when I got my Whitecap she came to me complete, and with the purple conch shell...the collector had no other of this set to have muddled them up, so it seems possible that there were some variations in shell issue. Personally I think pink goes better with Sea Mist and purple with Whitecap, but there y'go :) I still need shells for Sea Breeze and Wave Jumper - if you can help me please get in touch! |
