Beddy Bye Eye Baby Ponies
Baby ponies again! These little ponies are notoriously unpopular in the
online collecting community, but, judging by the quantity of them on Ebay,
they were pretty popular when they were first issued. Sold with a multitude
of Baby Pony accessories and the notorious 'beddy bye eyes' (known as lullabye
eyes in the UK), these little ponies did not make the trip across the atlantic
to the UK, although there were versions of Baby Gusty, baby Heart Throb,
Baby Lickety Split and Baby Ribbon sold here. Baby Sleepy Pie (white with
blue mane and tail, sleeping teddy bear symbol) and her purse (left) is
still under debate - she has been found multiple times in the UK, but Hasbro
make no mention of her, suggesting to me that she was sold here as part
of an end of line sell-off in 1992, probably through market retail outlets.
This would be supported by the fact her purse has not, to my knowledge, ever
been found in the UK.
It is interesting to note that Hasbro's catalogue for the UK issue showed
the four characters (Shady, Lofty, Ribbon and Lickety Split) in their BBE
forms, even though they were not sold with this style of eye over here.
This can probably be explained, however, by the habit Hasbro had of using
US issue ponies to preview a UK line, and I suspect the BBE babies were
never meant for UK issue at all.
Aside from these, Baby Cuddles, Baby Half Note, Baby
Tiddly Winks and Baby Frosting all appeared
with Beddy Bye Eyes, though the latter two were never sold in the UK, and
Baby Frosting never had a Non BBE equivalent.
