THE BIRTHDAY PONY (White earthling with dark pink mane and tail/blue tinsel, streamers, hearts and stars symbol all over) |
|
This Pony MIP When the Birthday Pony was first sold in the UK, sometime in late
'92 or early '93, there seemed to be absolutely no hidden motivation for
her issue at all. She was simply what she claimed to be, a pony with a birthday,
and that was that. by '94, when she was entering her third year of issue,
there was still no allusion to her as the 'Tenth Anniversary Pony' she
was in America, although by '94 we were getting imports from Europe in
foreign language packaging and our Birthday Pony was actually 'Geburtstags-Pony'.
(Incidentally, this was our first introduction to the existance of Nesthaeckchen Babies, because they appeared
on the German version of her insert, albeit in wrong poses).
The American issue, and the UK one also came with a small box like a gift, with a surprise inside. Since our pony was German, I can't be sure that all the European/UK ones were the same, but ours came with a woven purple and pink band to tie in her hair. I know in America the gift was different, I think a bracelet or something similar. The basic pony seems to have been the same, with her streamered tail, tinselled mane and brightly marked out body. Birthday Pony had no official name, and if she made any appearances in the Pony Comic it was probably only a one off guest showing. |
