Another of the early buildings, Majesty's castle was to be the pinnacle of UK pony stories for years and years to come, even long after the castle and pony were no longer on shop shelves. Majesty was to become one of the most important little ponies in Ponyland, designated their wise and all knowing queen with her magic golden horseshoes and seeing all mirror. Such was her importance in UK ponylore that she even became the hostess of the British My Little Pony club, apparently answering letters sent by club members in the various newsletters. Majesty was not a pony of such importance in America, and makes no appearance in the animated series, unlike her little friend 'Spike', the dragon. Perhaps in some ways this is unsurprising, and dare I say, Majesty's role (or lack of) in both countries largely reflected the prominence or otherwise of the traditional concept of royalty. Oddly, therefore, it was *America* who had the reissue of Dream Castle in lavender and mint later on in the pony campaign. With a working drawbridge and a basket for spike which could be lowered and raised, it was probably *the* pony playset kids wanted most from the year :) Many thanks to Garej for the use of the
Argos catalogue photograph of the Dream Castle (below)!
Please note that in the below picture the accessories are correct apart from two things - Majesty's damsel hat should have a white ribbon, and her shooting star brush could be either blue or gold, depending on the year of issue (My own was bought in Jan of 1987, when the castle was in it's last issue, and it came with blue) In the Comic Advert, however, even in 1985 it was shown with a blue brush. |
