KISS CURL (yellow earthling with pink mane and tail, pink and aqua curls and bows symbol) |
SNOWBALLTHE CAT (White cat with green stripes) |
This was the second issue of the Grooming Parlour, sold in the US as
the 'Brush Me Beautiful Boutique' and without the little pony to accompany
it. The new parlour sported "brighter, livelier colours" and was
now in purple, with an aqua green base. Kiss Curl has the dubious honour
of being probably the most common UK/Euro pony that exists, although it
is harder to find her with nice pink hair (like Posey). Her symbol can be either pink bows
with aqua curls (right) or aqua bows with pink curls (left). I have found
the print pictured to the left to be more common than the other. Because
Kiss Curl was issued during the crossover years (1987-1989, during which
all of the pony production for the United Kingdom switched from Hong Kong
to China), there exists a Chinese and a Hong Kongese Kiss Curl. My two are
Hong Kong (pink bows) and China (Aqua bows) but I think there is a Chinese
Kiss Curl with aqua bows also. Kiss Curl was advertised in the comics and
retailed at the rather expensive (for the eighties) price of £12.59
- you can see her comic advert here. I believe
Snowball was called Catnip in the US, but I might be wrong. In both her insert advert and her comic print up advert, her accessories are shown to be largely pink and white. HOWEVER, this was not always the case in stores. My Kiss Curl's parlour has a neon pink (not pastel pink) basket and a brush to match. Please note UK pamphlets rarely drew ponies in their correct poses, and there never was a collector pose Kiss Curl as suggested by the below insert scan. |
