Megan And Sundance
Megan and Sundance *USA*
Let's face it - most little pony girls (and perhaps boys as well!)either hated Megan or wanted to be her. Or quite possibly, both. The idea of a little girl who could travel over the rainbow on a pegasus pony must have made thousands of young and naive pony kids gaze longingly at every rainbow they saw in the hope of seeing Firefly or North Star coming to take them to Ponyland.
The doll of Megan, however, and her pony 'accomplice' Sundance (surprisingly an earth pony) was exploited to very good effect in the United States with three issues and one of Megan's sister, Molly. In the UK there appear to have been two issues of Megan and Sundance, and both featured the original style of pony. The difference appears to have been the outfit.
The 1986 insert pictures Megan and Sundance in a completely different outfit to the American issue - Sundance does not have any ponywear! This is also echoed in the comic adverts from this year. Then, in the early 1987 insert, Megan and Sundance are finally pictured in the attire they are wearing in most of the comic adverts -The fashion is called Country Jamboree, but here in the UK seperate Megan and Sundance wear was never sold, and the UK release did not have shoes for Sundance (please note that Megan DID have shoes, I just don't have them!) This appears to be the second issue of Megan and Sundance, a fact which would be borne out by how difficult it is to find Megan or Sundance's Country Jamboree attire in the UK.
Because she was sold in America in 1985, I've kept Megan and Sundance on this page, though it now appears that the first issue of Megan and Sundance in the UK did not occur till early 1986. The American issue had yet another dress - fancy white and pink which she wore in the television special Escape from Catrina.

The American issue of the first Megan and Sundance can be seen to the left, although Sundance is missing her velvet bridle (I couldn't find it before I took the picture :-/ sorry)
One important thing to note is that every single UK sold  Sundance I have come across (and that is a LOT of Sundances) has no country of origin on her hooves. North American Sundances have HONG KONG on their hooves. There is no additional value to a UK NC Sundance - but it does allocate her place of origin quite nicely :)

This MIB image was donated to me by a kind ebay seller whose email address I have misplaced after the reinstallation of my laptop. If you were the one who lent me this picture please get in touch so I can once more credit your donation :)
Thank you!
Megan and Sundance (First UK issue)
This picture is taken from the 1986  MLP insert for the UK and clearly shows Megan and Sundance and their attire. (or lack of!)

Megan and Sundance (Second Issue, 87)
This is from the early 1987 insert and clearly shows Megan and Sundance wearing Country Jamboree, as seen in the comic advertisment. Though Sundance is wearing shoes in this drawing, I have not found anything conclusive to suggest she was actually sold with them.
