Thanks to Crystaltipps for the picture of Baby Wuerfelchen loose. These li'l babies appear on the 1993 inserts for Germany and France but not for the UK - they weren't sold here or the USA. Oddly they were shown originally all in the same pose as Wuerfelchen (below). Because of their limited distribution, they can be quite tricky to find. Usually the only way to track them down is to buy from a continental seller. Unlike many of the later ponies, these were sold with a range of accessories, almost mirroring the Play and Care Sets from the early years. It's often been my assumption that Germany had a big imput into the European My Little Pony market when the American one died, and this set is one of those that would support that theory. There were never any sets this late on in the UK with such a range of bits and pieces. Sold for just over 22 DM originally, they would probably have retailed at equivalent about £9.99 in the UK had they ever been sold here. Wuerfelchen is correctly "Wurfelchen" with an umlaut over the "u" and the set name is properly "Nesthackchen-Baby-Pony" with an umlaut over the first a, but my English bought computer is having a major argument over the accents, so my apologies for the temporising! As far as I understand it, the accessories each baby had were as follows. I only know Wuerfelchen's for sure because I have not seen either of the other two Mint in Box to be certain. Baby Blubberchen: Blue bath tub (unique style to this pony), duck, bathmat, scrubbing brush (?), comb and ribbon. Comb might be an ABC one. Baby Schlummerlein: pink crib (unique style to this pony), blanket, pink teddy bear, bottle, comb and ribbon. Comb might be an ABC one. Baby Wuerfelchen: Pink playpen (unique to her, has inscribed design on the inside of the base with the words "PET" and "BABY" on blocks.), red mat with squares on, stacking toy with pink base and yellow, mint green, blue, white rings, yellow ABC comb and pink ribbon.) The "BABY" and "PET" on Wuerfelchen's pen almost make me wonder if this set was originally projected for the UK (since they would make some sense in English), but such an event never took place. |
