Playtime Baby Ponies
The UK Issue MIP

This set was an amalgamation of two Playtime Baby Brother Ponies (Baby Paws and Baby Drummer, see above) and four Fancy Pants Baby Ponies (Babies Starburst, Glider, Splashes and Dots & Hearts) to make one set. The remaining six ponies over the two American sets (pictured above and below) were not sold in the UK, and those that were often carried a variation. In the European/UK issue, Baby Splashes (left) and Baby Starburst (right) both had forelocks of a different colour to the rest of their hair and the bulk of Baby Splashes' mane and tail was pale pink, despite the fact that in the British comics she was still drawn with the American purple hair. Equally, Baby Starburst in the UK had different coloured symbols on her panties to the US version (pink and blue instead of yellow and blue). In fact, only the European/UK style of box shows Baby Splashes in her correct colour scheme. Baby Dots & Hearts and Baby Glider retained the same colour scheme in both issues, but there was still a minor variation, since all the four European Fancy Pants Babies were made in China, and the American six were made in Thailand. The big mesh bow ties shown in the pictures did indeed come with the girls of these sets (I'm afraid I don't have them all) whilst the baby brother ponies had striped neckties.
Despite all the variations in the ponies themselves, the accessories appear to have stayed the same. Please note that Baby Sunnybunch has YELLOW hair not neon yellow as the photograph suggests (my evil digital camera :|)

The Playtime Baby Ponies don't seem to have appeared on a UK insert, but did appear on the French equivalent for that year's line of My Little Pony (weird!). Thanks to Tic Tac Toe for the above insert scan :)
