Princess
Brush & Grow Ponies And after the popularity of the hair-growing marvels of the previous
year, the Brush and Grow Ponies were back
with a royal twist. These four ponies lacked any unicorns in the set, probably
because each had a jewel on their forehead and their manes were now threaded
with tinsel. In the American commercial for these ponies, Princess Star
Gleamer is shown in Galaxy's pose only without the horn, but in actual fact
she was sold in the more normal earth pony walking mould.
She also became an important comic character in the UK in her semi-rapunzel adventure when she got imprisoned in a dark tower. These ponies came with the hair accessories of the first group, and my childhood Star Gleamer came with pony nail polish, but whether this was part of the pony make up offer or part of their accessory issue I could not be sure. It was a long time ago ;) but other collectors have mentioned a similar feature, so my feeling is that they were deliberately sold with the nail polish. This would be supported by the fact that the bottle of nail polish I got with Star Gleamer had her printed on it - but such make up did not come with the ponies in the US issue. |
