The Rainbow Ponies were one of Hasbro's first experimentations into the
'ponies with a gimmick' range. Each of the six ponies issued had hair in
four supposedly 'rainbow' colours (namely dark pink, yellow, green and blue').
It's true to say that some Rainbow Ponies appear to have been rooter with darker or reddier pink than others :) Each of the Rainbow Ponies from this year had one of the year's new moulds and a glittery symbol, something which other earth ponies generally did not have, and which unicorns and pegasi would soon lose as well. Every Rainbow Pony was also sold with a sticker, a ribbon, a brush and a comb, the brush being a shooting star and the comb an ordinary style comb of the same colour.
