THIS SET MOC To fit in with
the My Little Pony's 'Back To School' type theme, these Schooltime Ponies
were the older student ponies. Again, all had freckles, were issued with
ABC combs, and again, the only male of the group, Sportstime was shown
in a recognised female pose. (Perhaps it's worth guessing that by this time
Hasbro had rid themselves of the male pony moulds, for from Sportstime on
any adult male pony would be portrayed in this pose, though by no means
did it mean that all ponies in this pose were automatically male. Confused?
You will be!)
All of this set came with yellow and orange school bags as well as combs, and featured extensively in comics. Sportstime in particular became known for always saying 'Any sport's a good sport', but all of them developed their own individual characters as time went on. Paintingtime is often known incorrectly as Art Time but the UK card gives her as *PAINTINGTIME*, as does the UK pony comic, and Hasbro's own list. Since I have recently learnt that her German name is not the fabled "Artzeit" but "Klecksi" (according to her card), then all I can presume is that the original misnaming occured in a communication mixup somewhere along the line. It's interesting trivia to note that Playtime bears more than a passing resemblance to American So Soft Pony Skippety Doo from 1986. However, the Schooltime ponies were not sold in North America. |
