And now it's time to utterly confuse everybody. These baby ponies cannot really be seperated, since they come from the same stem idea. The Starlight Baby Ponies (above) have the honour of being the first ever set of baby ponies with tinsel streaked manes and tails, and their bodies were shiny. Though the insert suggests them to be somewhat pearly, the effect is  actually more like they've been liberally coated with PVA glue. Hasbro having a Blue Peter moment, perhaps...
There is also a Baby Mischief with all gold tinsel in her hair (left) that I got from Germany, however the Starlight Babies were generally sold all across Europe and the UK with rainbow coloured tinsel (namely gold, aqua and pink). Though initial pictures show Baby Mischief as being purple, and the comics stubbornly drew Baby Explorer every time as an earthling, the real ponies are shown above.
The Sparkle Baby Ponies (below), in contrast, had no tinsel in their hair, but instead glittery bodies in the same style as the 'Sparkle Ponies' of earlier years. They also had rather more repetitive names, though there is no other pony by the name of Baby Starflower, the other three are recycled. Baby Firefly is somewhat more purple than Baby Mischief, and it's important to note that Baby North Star is orange, whereas Baby Night Song, her European 'twin' is white. The symbols between the two sets, however, remain the same.
Oddly Hasbro themselves seem to have been confused by the Starlight set. Baby Night Song and Baby Stella's identites can be reversed - and often are!! In the comics and Hasbro bumf, Baby Night Song is the white baby, and baby Stella is the orange baby, so that is how I have labelled them above. HOWEVER, the babies were sold on the reverse way round cards, suggesting maybe Baby Stella was the white baby, and Night Song the orange.
