Twinkle Eye Ponies
THE UK ISSUE SET: MIP
Like the So Soft Ponies, Twinkle Eyed Ponies were something Hasbro felt worth pursuing. Not long after the original six had been selling like mad on shop shelves, Hasbro introduced three new playmates for them.
It's interesting to note at this point that, whilst Speedy and Sky Rocket were both issued in the UK, Sweet Pop was not.
Speedy would also be reissued the next year, along with five new ponies, some of whom would also be exempt from the UK line.
Speedy and Sky Rocket had fairly logical story roles - Sky Rocket was into fireworks and generally appeared in the comic around November time for pony style Guy Fawkes behaviour, whilst Speedy was a rollerskater pony who often had races with other ponies...sometimes ending up in odd lands in the process.
Pictured to the left is a pale version of Speedy which, I am told, is a European variation. I honestly know nothing about her, since my Speedy (above) came from the UK and is dark coloured, but I'm reliably informed that the pale one is indeed European in her origin.
Thanks to Amanda for the picture of pale Speedy.
