'Wedding'
Ponies Mk. Hasbro's pony department went a little insane and invented
three versions of the bride but only one version of the groom :-p How confusing
must THAT be on the honeymoon? At least, I suppose, Satin and Lace was *given*
a groom pony, unlike any of the other bridal ponies that Hasbro produced.
Seriously speaking, Satin and Lace came out three seperate times - initially in lavender then later issues had her in magenta and so soft forms. She is shown on the same insert as the Mailin Sparkle ponies and Clipper, albeit in magenta, but in the collector's pose - think it highly unlikely that was anything more than a prototype mind you. It's hard to know for sure, but it's just possible that there are two versions of the So Soft floating about, one with a magenta base body and one with a lavender one. HOWEVER, I have not seen in person a lavender based So Soft Satin & Lace, so for now I'm ascribing this to the 'possible but unproven' category. Initially Baby Lucky was sold as being her ring bearer, but Tux and Tails did not emerge until later, and when he did it was initially under the name 'Coat & Tails'. Both names appear to be in popular collecting circulation, however more people tend to refer to him by the former, so this is what I've chosen to label him as. He's also been spotted in the UK in the 'end of the line' clearout bags after MLP in the USA ended. Baby Lucky has the honour of being the only official mail order pony not later sold in stores that was offered in the United Kingdom via this insert. The offer officially began in 1986, though the closing date was 1987 and his insert appeared in the packaging of 1987 ponies such as the Twinkle Eyes and original (non so soft) ponies for that year. Ironically, the insert falsely advertises that Lucky was 'only available in the UK'. I'm proud to say I saved up points for him, and when he arrived he had a purple bow tie, a white moon and stars comb and he came in a brown box. Yes, I have a good memory! But it was a big deal back then for me to get him, and I remember religiously keeping his comb apart from the others so I should always know which was his. He also came with a letter from Megan. And yes, that hairdo is original - he is the first and only MLP that I can think of who was actually SOLD with a ready made crewcut :P The bow ties would later be reused for the male Loving Family children. Tux and Tails also came with a bow tie, And Satin and Lace had a wedding outfit not dissimilar to Confetti's 'wedding bells' outfit, though apparently of slightly different fabric. |
