1986:

PLAY AND CARE SET BABY PONIES

As with so many ponies from the UK line, online these little cuties have an ugly, negative nickname - "non beddy bye eye baby ponies", or "NBBE". Back when the world first found out about them, there were not many UK people online, and obviously, the North American collectors (of which most of the community at the time were) had to find a way to better recognise them in conjunction with their own sets.

Obviously, however, Hasbro never called their set anything like this, and their correct set name is "Play and Care Set Babies", on account of the accessories they were sold with. In fact, this was a continuation, for the first Play and Care Set Baby Ponies were sold the year before and comprised Baby Blossom, Baby Applejack and Baby Cotton Candy. This year there were four, all of whom have counterparts in the North American line with, yes, Beddy Bye Eyes.

(1986 Insert, UK)

As the insert shows, their accessories remained the same between the two countries and the two versions of each pony. The only differences were that the UK ponies had the blue "snugfit" nappy box, rather than the 'diaper' box sold in North America, and they had round puffy stickers instead of flat scented ones! They retailed for around £5.85-£5.99, probably on account of all of their accessories.

Baby Lickety Split and Baby Ribbon: Argos Catalogue, 1986

The above Argos image does not show the sticker, but you can see from the MIP image on Baby Lickety Split's page that she has one! Otherwise, the accessories detailed for Baby Lickety Split are fairly accurate, and probably that means Baby Ribbon's are as well!
