1988:

SWEETBERRY PONIES

Sweetberry Ponies were the next set of scented ponies and, by complete coincidence, the least gimmicky of all of Hasbro's scented sets. The group consisted of six ordinary ponies on the fruit theme, with single colour mane and tails. The set included four earth ponies, one unicorn and one pegasus. Just like the Sundae Best ponies, their scents were somewhat nauseating - though possibly not quite as bad!!

Sadly, though not unusually, the set only included four characters when it was released in the United Kingdom. Cranberry Muffin and Blueberry Baskets never saw a UK release. Blackberry Pie was also known by a different name in North America where she was labelled 'Boysenberry Pie' instead.

Each Sweetberry pony was sold in the UK and Europe on a purple card with patterned borders, as fit the style of the time.

A weird fact of this set is that the ones sold in Europe are most commonly Made in China. Hong Kong versions also exist, most of which are in the North American edition. For some reason known only to Hasbro, the Hong Kong versions of Cherry Treats and Raspberry Jam have forelocks, whereas the ones you will see on my page (both Chinese) do not. This is original - if yours has a forelock and is made in Hong Kong then it has not had a haircut, equally if it has been made in China and has no forelock, that is normal.
