1989:

PERFUME PUFF PONIES

People always have mixed opinions about this particular set. Myself, I think they're lovely - their poofy hair is soft to touch and it adds a whole new dimension to the pony line. This is the only set of scented ponies Hasbro made with - in my opinion - bearable perfumes, so of course they're going to be welcome with me :)

The Perfume Puff Ponies are easily distinctive, with their fluffy manes and tails and gentle floral scents. First introduced into the pony comic through a booklet called the "Book of Flower Fables", issued as part of My Little Pony Comic's fourth birthday issue that year (comic #112). The booklet had paragraphs detailing each character, though was only comprised of cut up bits of comic pages and was easy to lose. (Guess who lost hers? Ahem).

They would play a significant role in comic stories for this year and also were closely associated with the Perfume Puff Palace, although none of them were actually released with the playset.

I will admit, mind you, that the first time I saw one of this set at a car boot sale, I was of the opinion something terrible had happened to her hair!

Each Perfume Puff Pony had a symbol which fitted in with the concept of the set and, as with most sets at this time, there was one unicorn, one pegasus and four earth ponies. Surprisingly, this set was sold in it's entirety in the UK release, which was another bonus for UK kids :)

I am looking for any information on these ponies mint in their UK release boxes. As yet, none have come to light.
