1990:

RAINBOW CURL PONIES

Okay, I'm about to go off on another naming rant now - stand by :P

These are some of the prettiest ponies to be released during the 1990 line. Issued with pretty ringlets like the previous year's Candy Cane set, they were rainbow ponies but with a new curly twist. Consequently, each of them had the word 'Rainbow' at the start of their names - at least in the United Kingdom.

In the North American release, they were named Stripes, Streaky, Raincurl and Ringlet. Which, with all due respect to Hasbro USA and the North American market, sounds like something a six year old dreamt up when asked what they were going to call their new pony.

Ahem. Okay. Rant done :P

Rainbow Rider from this set was chosen to be the 'motif' pony for the year as well, as she is depicted beneath the rainbow on all UK release cards from this time (regardless of what set they came from). She also appeared on the front of the year's insert.

The Rainbow Curl Ponies lived in Rainbow Mountain, and were often given as the guardians of the Rainbow Baby Ponies.

Like with the Candy Cane Ponies, it can be difficult to find these girls with their curl intact.
