1990:

GLITTERING SWEETHEART SISTER PONIES

1990 introduced us to the second set of Sweetheart Sister Ponies- the Glittering Sweetheart Sister Ponies. Like the previous year, each pony was made in a slim, elegant mould and had a pierced ear with a single floral earring. Often these are missing in second hand ponies!

This time there were only four characters in the set, and each pony had hair rooted with tinsel and glittering symbols that spread all the way up both sides of their bodies.

All four ponies were sold globally, although their manner of being sold was somewhat different in different places. I know for sure that in the North American release, each pony was sold sealed onto card. I'm 99% sure, however, that my childhood Starflash came in a box, which would indicate different packaging. Sadly I don't have any pictures of this set Mint in Package from the United Kingdom! I do remember very vividly, however, that my Starflash also came with a comb in the same style or design as those that were sold with the Princess Ponies from 1987 and 1988 - a glittering star pick. You can see an example of this comb style on Princess Taffeta's page.

Often in the UK comic they were simply referred to as "Glittering Ponies". I guess this is because otherwise their name is something of a mouthful! They were also the last set of Sweetheart Sister Ponies to be sold in the United Kingdom.

There is also one name variation in this set - in the North American release, the yellow pony was known as Twinkler, which was a name recycled from an earlier issue Sparkle Pony. But here in the UK, she was called Moonshimmer - and was the only pony to ever hold that name!
