1993:

HAIRDO PONIES

The Hairdo Ponies were, probably, the next evolutionary step (heh) from the earlier hairstyling ponies such as the Brush and Grow Ponies and Princess Brush and Grow Ponies. With pearlised bodies and bicolour manes, they stood out more than the regular ponies in this year's line - yet if that wasn't enough, each pony also had a twisty length of plastic inserted into her mane and her tail in order to facilitate styling. Apparently the official name for these was a "bendy". I'm not going to comment on that, but let's call them "twisties" for now.

(Actually, you try styling a pony's mane or tail when she has a snake surgically attached to her and see how easily you can do it, but I digress)

HELPFUL GUIDANCE FOR SNAKE-STYLING (BANGLES' BOX)
(Believe me, they never behave that well in real life)

Each pony was sold in a box with a mirror pick comb and each pony's twisty colours were different. All were Earth Ponies.

Whilst Starlight was based on the Seven Character pony from the same year, Bangles and Beautiful Bows were only ever sold in this format and were created specifically for this release.
