1993:

ROLLERSKATES PONIES

All sold in the same 'walking pose', the Rollerskates Ponies were probably the runners up in this year's contest for most gimmicky My Little Pony. (You can see how far things have come from the early 1980s, since these girls were fitted out with not only rollerskates but CD walkman systems to allow them to listen to their favourite tunes while they rolled!)

All were Earth Ponies, and each had a bicolour mane which was floor length, but a short monocolour tail (to prevent it getting caught up in the wheels of the pony's mechanism, no doubt!)

The mechanism can break and the wheels can come off with age and wear, though itis not impossible to find Rollerskates Ponies in working order and with all of their bits and pieces. A small motor operates in the front skate to provide a pull back mechanism to enable the pony to skate on a smooth surface.

(MELODY'S BOX, UK, 1992/3)

Whilst Melody was based on the Seven Character pony from the same year, Jazzie and Hip Hop were only ever sold in this format and were created specifically for this release. They had one brief appearance in the comic, in the vein of an advert, although done in the drawing style of the comic for that year.
