BABY BIENCHEN
(Aka Baby Honeycomb)

White baby pegasus pony with golden yellow mane and tail, bees symbol

Despite the careful attention to detail with the other members of this set, Baby Bienchen is rather an exception. The adult pony, Honeycomb, was part of the 1986 adult pony set in the United Kingdom and Europe. Unlike Buttons, who belonged to the 1987 Movie Star pony set and therefore never had a glittered symbol, adult Honeycomb had the glitter befitting all ordinary adult pegasus ponies up till 1986. She also had neon yellow hair. Baby Bienchen, however, has neither of these. Her hair is a very pretty golden blond, and her bees are matt painted in black and yellow.

The reasons for this are unclear. It's possible that, with Buttons, Hasbro had a direct example because she was being sold the same year. Honeycomb, however, was no longer to be sold this year, meaning perhaps they had based the baby on drawings and not photographs. Neon hair is very hard to depict in drawings, as is glitter. Another theory is that they simply didn't want to make Baby Honeycomb stand out by having her as the only pony with no glittered symbol, and it can't be forgotten that other normally glittered symbolled ponies were sold in continental Europe with painted ones instead. It's absolutely a possibility that Hasbro decided there was no need to glitter the symbols, being that they had stopped glittering the adults that year as well.

Really, we don't know for sure. She was never sold in the UK.
