1984-5: The Baby Pony Stroller

BABY BOW TIE
(and the Baby Pony Stroller)

BABY BOWTIE: Blue baby pony with pink mane and tail, pink bows symbol.

As the second attempt by Hasbro UK to compensate for no baby Pegasi or Unicorns, the Baby Pony Stroller came into being. Made IN the UK FOR the UK, the playset itself is notoriously delicate and canopies and wheels are often broken off ones found second-hand. With the original stroller came Baby Bow Tie (though the playset would be released again the next year in a new colour and with a new pony). Though Mummy Bow Tie is pictured above, she was never sold with the playset.

For a limited time, the catalogue store Argos offered Snuzzle as a free pony with the Stroller, for a retail collect price of £8.95. The reasoning behind this is still unclear but it may simply have been that Hasbro had surplus Snuzzle stock. There is more information about this release on Snuzzle's page.

There was also a release of Baby Bow Tie made in Spain, which I had the fortune to see with my own eyes mint on card at the Manchester 05 convention. My sincere thanks to the owners of this beauty for allowing me to photograph their pony for the website!

(SPANISH VERSION)

BABY BOW TIE ("Bebe Regordete")
MADE IN SPAIN

(LOOSE)

As can be seen here, she was sold with a duck comb and a bottle with an aqua blue rim. There are no pictures on the back of the card, and the front shows baby Tiddly Winks and Baby Lemon Drop - perhaps a Spanish way of compensating for ponies they didn't get otherwise?
Baby Bow Tie in this pose was also sold with the Baby Pony Stroller in Spain. I am unsure whether there are any differences between the carded and playset issue.

My loose Baby Bow Tie in this edition has no country of manufacture on her feet (these are generally associated with Spain) and should not be confused with the UK issue in the shy baby pose.
