1992:

THE BIRTHDAY PONY

White earth pony with dark pink mane and tail (blue tinsel in mane, pink, silver and blue streamers in tail), body patterned in streamers, hearts and stars in dark pink, lavender and aqua blue.

The irony of this pony is that, in spite of her global release, the significance of the Birthday Pony being sold at this time was never fully explained to us here in the UK. Whilst in North America, she became part of the 10th Anniversary celebration, here in the UK she was just sold as a pony who liked having birthday parties. She came with a small cardboard box present (not dissimilar in shape to that which came with the Birthday Girl Ponywear). Our pony came with a pink and blue woven hairtie or bracelet in her box. I know she can also come with a heart shaped charm on elastic, or a hair clip, instead. I think her accessories were the same the world over, even if her packaging was not. I'm told she had a yellow shooting star comb, but I honestly don't remember.

Her patterned body was not dissimilar to the idea used for the Flower Fantasy ponies, although her patterns are all different colours and she has no separate symbol. She also had no official name. Mine came in a German box, as she was end of line stock shipped over towards the end of the UK line, and I bought her in July, so I called her "Juli". For some reason, that's the name that stuck with me, since all ponies ought to have names! She was legitimately sold in UK packaging before this point, though, and there was no name on her box when she was.

PONY NAMED: "BIRTHDAY PONY" (GEBURTSTAGS-PONY)

A promotional version of this pony had yellow patterns in with the other colours, and this has been confirmed to exist, although whether it is a mainstream variation is unclear. There was also a prototype of her in the walking pose, but this version was never used for promotion in the UK.
