1986: So Soft Ponies

FIFI

Aqua unicorn with white mane and tail (dark pink streak in mane), pink poodles symbol. FLOCKED.

Fifi was the second of two new Unicorn ponies released with the new So Soft set, though her baby, when issued in 1987, would be an earth pony. Fifi never appeared on the television show, but her baby did, with a pronounced french accent. It is therefore presumed that Fifi herself had some kind of je ne sais quoi francais about her - though if that is implied simply from the pink poodles on her symbol, it's stretching the imagination quite a way!

Fifi was originally depicted on her backcard without the horn or the pink streak in her mane - which should curl. She was never sold in the UK - in fact, until I came online in 97 for the first time, I had no idea that the multinational Baby Fifi was actually a derivative of an already sold adult pony. There was never a version of Fifi sold without the flocking - she only ever existed as part of this So Soft set.

So Soft Fifi was also the first pony to carry this name - though it would later be re-used for a salon-based Twice as Fancy pony.
