1986: My Little Pony

GYPSY

Burnt orange unicorn with dark orange mane and tail, glittery tambourines symbol. FRECKLED.

Gypsy is one of the more unique of the early My Little Ponies. Though she belongs in some senses with the other original Unicorns (such as Glory, Sparkler and Gusty), Gypsy stands out because she is the only one not to have the customary streak of colour in her mane. She also has freckles, a feature no other early unicorn pony shares.

Although other ponies in Gypsy's set were sold in other countries and as parts of other sets, Gypsy seems to have been an exception. Though I believe she may have been sold in Australia, it appears that she was largely a UK exclusive, and she was not sold on the European continent or North America. For this reason she is among the more sought after of the early UK ponies - and a big favourite with collectors.

Gypsy's personality in the comics was not dissimilar in some respects to Medley's. Her tambourine symbol gave away her love of music and dance, and this was her main characteristic in the Fact File also. She played major parts in stories involving magic or superstition, such as one surrounding Friday the 13th. She was also able to tell the future.
