TWICE AS FANCY BABY PONIES

Aw. Even now, I find these little girls completely adorable. I first fell completely in love with them on seeing their images on an insert from the US. Little did I know how many other collectors saw them as just as cute and adorable!

Though not necessarily the most hard to find Mail Order babies, these are by no means common. Add that to their general desireability, and yeah, you get a fair price.

Part of the appeal is the Twice as Fancy design, although, being released so many years after their parent ponies, some of the species and details got a little bit mucked around. Designed as babies for the original set of Twice as Fancy/Party Ponies from 1987, Hasbro decided to go with evenly splitting the set into two unicorns, two pegasus and two earth ponies, despite the fact the original adult set held only one unicorn and one pegasus pony.

Ironically, neither of the Baby unicorns belonged to the unicorn mother pony, Milky Way, whose baby was, instead, a pegasus.

We'll blame it on pollution >.>.

The Twice as Fancy Ponies didn't come on cards, because of their Mail Order status, but were sold in clear plastic bags and came with ribbons and not much else. They were sold for a couple of years via the North American horseshoe points system, BUT have been found in the UK.

The general theory is that some Twice as Fancy Baby Ponies got here as leftovers from the US line, and the small numbers of these that have turned up over here would indicate that as a possibility. Other ponies from the US line have appeared here at the end of production in similarly badly marked packages, making it impossible to say these were not available here.

HOWEVER, before you all run down to your local carboot sale hoping to pick up a haul, let me just point out that only a VERY FEW examples of these ponies have been found in the UK and the chances of picking one up now, so many years after the original line ended is far, far lower than their odds of coming up on Ebay.

Sorry to disappoint!
