1987: Adventure Boy/Big Brother Ponies

TUG

Yellow shire pony with dark pink mane and tail (dark blue streak in mane), aqua and pink cactus symbol.

Maybe it's just my imagination, but somehow Tug always looks like a sailor to me. Unlike some of his set-mates, I do remember him being quite a significant pony at times in the pony comic. He certainly had a tugboat of his own, and he managed to use it to pull off pony rescues and visit strange places. I have a feeling he had something to do with Tutti Frutti and an odd statue in one of them - but I need to do some digging to find out more, because my memory isn't sure.

Tug was known as Salty in the North American release, and it was less than a year before there was another pony (a sea pony) with the same name, indicating the way in which the American market was going to go with repeated names. Ironically, there was never a pony called Salty released in the UK.

Tug was also re-released in the second year set with three new characters - Barnacle, Chief and Wigwam. He was named the same in both the North American and UK sets.
