Collector Ponies: Cotton Candy

Pink earth pony with pink mane and tail, white speckles symbol
Cotton Candy was sold in the United Kingdom first through import as a Flat Footed pony in
1983.

In 1984, she was rereleased as part of a set of Earth Ponies. These ponies were sold on amended cards, with back designs showing only the six earth ponies, omitting the unicorn and pegasus ponies which were not sold in the United Kingdom at all. These cards did not feature backcard stories in the UK.

Cotton Candy's set was also promoted in the 1984 insert, and although Hasbro UK's official list (which dates from 1985) does not include her, she is also illustrated in insert art for 1985, wearing different ponywear styles from the year.

Character
Cotton Candy was a popular comic figure in stories through the early 1980s. She was known for eating flowers and in the comic, for being Ponyland's nurse.

Overseas Releases
Cotton Candy was originally sold in the United States in 1982-3 as one of the original release. She was sold in stores in 1983-4 as part of the Year 2 Earth Pony set (the US equivalent of the 1984 set sold in the UK, which featured the same characters).

She was subsequently sold with concave hooves in stores and through mail order until around 1986.

Cotton Candy was sold in some European countries. While most ponies are made in Hong Kong or China, some European countries in the early 1980s had versions made in other countries.
