Shimura MikimarouMikimaro is either incredibly irritating or incredibly cute. It depends on your take on it *lol* He's definitely the sweetest natured of the group, and he's always trying to make peace or bring people together. He goes out of his way to try and involve Nakamoto in things when Nakamoto is determined to be withdrawn and/or secretive with his behaviour, and he's always concerned for the well-being of his companions. He's also perceptive - he knows when people have fought even without being told, and he hates it when the people around him are fighting. In general Mikimaro's outlook is bright and cheery and optimistic, although in some respects this conceals some of the deeper things going on inside.

Mikimaro is Yuusuke's room-mate, and the two of them get on well, with Yuusuke sometimes asking Mikimaro for advice. Since Yuusuke is good natured and Mikimaro generally quite peaceable, they manage to live together very amicably from the start, despite their differences in outlook. (This being said, they're neither of them afraid to contradict the other loudly in the middle of class!)

In the manga he has more of a protective, friendish kind of relationship which he has over all of his comrades (see the image to the right - text reads "For what reason would Takagi-kun be with Arai-kun's father!?"). He's not stupid, but he can occasionally be very silly, to the point where he and Yuusuke have occasionally been referred to as the "baka-KOMBI" (the idiot duo). It can probably said that Mikimaro is not at all academic but is fairly smart in terms of people's feelings, making him probably the peacemaker of the group. He also dislikes fighting with people he cares about. Despite his usual cheery demeanour, he is prone to getting emotional at the least thing...a very sentimental, caring character with one particular obsession...

That obsession being... Arai (yes, to the point of love, which he admits in the fourth volume of the manga). He does get jealous when other people secure Arai's attention (girls or guys, generally referring to Arai as "my Arai-kun!", much to Arai's irritation. Mikimaro is cute and innocent, so his interest in Arai is fairly harmless - but yes. It's a crush *lol*.Mikimaro's dealing with competition for Arai varies - sometimes he's all right with it, if Arai is seeing a girl, although he dislikes the connection Arai has with Kawazoe and gets quite upset if he thinks there's another guy involved. On other occasions he freaks out no matter whether it is a girl or a guy involved...so I suppose it depends on his mood. In the original manga, he wants Arai to kiss him in order to keep the Kawazoe situation a secret. In the PLUS manga, he tells Arai he wouldn't let his "cousin" kiss him because he wants Arai to be his first kiss. There is never any indication that Mikimaro is interested in girls in any respect - and his friends pretty much accept that as normal Mikimaro behaviour. He is not feminine, but he is "cute", and for that reason he probably gets away with it.

Arai can be quite mean to him, (calling him a kid, even though Mikimaro is older than he is) but I think truthfully he's quite fond of him too, and certainly protects him almost like having a younger brother ^_^. Mikimaro has problems with other people because of his cute appearance as he is also propositioned by a teacher in both the original manga and the novels. He's also often being mistaken for a middle school student on account of his short stature, which also makes him annoyed. Poor boy...

Mikimaro has a sunny temperament and a penchant for video games. He plays the Sotsugyou M game in the OVA, which is quite cute :) .He also has an insatiable appetite in the OVA too. He seems to like to trust in people's natures - not always to his benefit. Mikimaro's family situation is semi-complicated. He is adopted - as he says in the PLUS manga and in the Drama CDs, his parents aren't his real parents - and his real mother is a famous actress who gave him up to prevent a scandal. His father's identity is unknown only Mikimaro, his family, and his group of friends know his mother's real identity (unless you count Yuusuke blurting it out to his sisters...) Yet Mikimaro seems quite forgiving of this fact, and treasures the locket he has with his birth mother's picture inside.

In the original ASUKA novels, Mikimaro is also quite an accomplished piano player, who puts his skills to good use helping Takagi to arrange music for the 'M' band. In the manga/PLUS novel brief references to the band, however, his instrument is support guitar and his skills in that regard negligible.
