1991: Baby Ballerina Ponies

BABY SWEET STEPS

Lavender baby earth pony with dark pink mane and tail, yellow leotard and shoe bows.

The Baby Ballerina Ponies were the first of their kind sold in the UK, and their jointed bodies inspired instructions on the card to show how they worked. Without symbols, they are identifiable by their colour schemes. Each of them was sold on a green bordered card in the UK, and each pony had a unique story attached.

The Baby Ballerina Ponies did appear in the MLP comic, the first time dancing baby ponies had made an appearance since the Baby Bonnet School of Dance had been issued several years earlier.

The pony pictured above is the pony my sister had from childhood, and she always had curly hair. There exists, however, a version of Baby Sweet Steps whose hair is naturally straight. I am unsure whether this version was part of the UK release or whether she was only from a batch sold in North America.
