1991: Schooltime Ponies

PLAYTIME

Mint aqua green earth pony with dark pink mane and tail, yellow skipping rope with blue handles

Playtime is probably the most 'retro' of the Schooltime set, drawing on a very old pose. Like with the rest of her set, her hair is long and silky, and monocolour.

Playtime''s name and symbol may seem an odd match, but I think there's something quintessentially "British" and "1980s" ish about the whole concept. In the 1980s and early 1990s, it wasn't uncommon for Primary Schools in the UK to have a shed full of equipment that the kids could play with at break, including skipping ropes (known I think as jump ropes in the US?). In the UK, the word 'playtime' can mean the obvious, time when you play, but it is also a term for school break or recess. So, essentially, Playtime's name and symbol indicate the more "fun" aspect of school - hanging out in the playground with your friends!

Playtime has freckles on her cheek.
