1991: Schooltime Ponies

SPORTSTIME

Blue earth pony with gold mane and tail, orange ball symbol with pink motion lines

Sportstime is often a cause of confusion for collectors, for he was marketed as a boy pony, but lacked any of the normal signs of being a Big Brother - he had no clydesdale hooves, and was made in the pose used by earlier female ponies, such as Gingerbread and Shady. Nonetheless, there was never any doubt in his backcard story nor in the comic. Sportstime is officially a BOY.

He was known in the My Little Pony comic for his frequent tagline, "Any Sport's a Good Sport!", which he said with nauseating repetitiveness. He is probably the hardest pony in the set to find, especially in good condition, and I have seen him with some odd hair - including a fluffy perm - which I am reluctant to call original, but you never know!

The ball for his symbol may be a football but it looks rather more generic, probably in keeping with his 'any sport' motif.

Sportstime has freckles on his cheeks.
