1991: Glowing Magic Ponies

BRIGHTGLOW

Peachish orange earth pony with dark pink and lavender mane and tail, two doves symbol, pink hearts and yellow stars.

Brightglow is a tad less controversial than some of her set-mates, and also a bit more low key on the pony collecting horizon. The above photographed pony comes from my childhood collection, and she has always had curly purple but straight dark pink mane and tail, for some completely unknown reason.

Please note the ribbons pictured are not necessarily correct to this pony.

The more common version of Brightglow on the second hand market generally has silky smooth hair in both colours, and this seems to have been the most commonly available version in the North American release. I cannot say with total authority that all UK sold Brightglow had the two type of hair, because I have no others here to compare with, but there are other ponies from this year with the same dichotomy (Half Note from the Rockin' Beats, for example) and these are ponies who have a silky smooth version out there in the world as well. I do not have a picture of this pony. However, we do have one ...variant? of Brightglow.

BRIGHTGLOW: ALTERNATE VERSION

This Brightglow is a more opaque plastic, though that is generally down to individual ponies. Her hearts are vivid pink but really hard to see. The biggest difference is her hair, however - the purple streaks are much darker and bluer than in my childhood pony, who has lavender curly streaks. Sadly, this pony's hair is in terrible condition, so it is impossible to know what texture hair she had originally. Her origin is unknown.
