1986: So Soft Ponies

TWIST

Purple unicorn with red-orange mane and tail (very pale pink streak in mane), white pretzels symbol. FLOCKED.

I have to confess, Twist is possibly my favourite So Soft Pony. One of two new unicorn characters, Twist was only ever sold as part of this set and was never offered for re-release in the following year. On the back of her card, she is pictured with yellowish mane and tail - but in fact her hair is a vivid red-orange, much the same as Paradise. The streak in her hair is often debated as regards it's colour - some say it is white - but both my and my sister's loose Twists have a pale pink streak, as does my sealed on card pony (shown to the right). So I'm assuming that she was meant to have pink :)

As with many So Soft Ponies, Twist was not sold in the UK, and her symbol is somewhat concealed by her flocking. Perhaps they thought that we would not be able to interpret the 'pretzel' symbol over here, since it isn't a commonly found snack in the United Kingdom. Honestly, that's just me clutching at straws. I still don't know why the So Soft Ponies were officially omitted from the UK line, though rumours always abound.
