Don't Look Back
(A Sadie Saga)
Sadie's Diary: September 3rd, 2003

Dear Diary,
I can't believe I really woke up this morning in New York City. It's such an odd feeling, knowing that you're half a world away from everything you've ever known. Kinda sobering too, actually. I really don't know what the future is going to bring, and nothing brought that home to me more clearly than glancing out of this bedroom window and realising that I don't know a soul in this city. State, even. All it is is a big expanse of cars, people, buildings and a whole culture that I don't even understand. Sidewalks instead of pavements. Elevators instead of lifts. And as for the driving - I'm going to have to be very careful to remember that they drive on the right here, or I'll wind up getting myself flattened. They move so fast - I have to admit I never saw a city like this one before in my life!

I was lucky to discover that this place had an internet room on the ground floor and that it didn't cost much to use their facilities, so I sent an email to Alyssa and one to Jessica and everyone at the centre, just to let them know I'm all right. I didn't tell them where I was, just safe and sound and well away from danger. That should allay any fears they have, anyway. The last thing I want them to do is worry about me. I'm worried enough about myself as it is!
Maybe I should have dropped Topaz an email, too, but I kinda didn't like to. I know she's very busy, and I don't want to email her and then have her say that I can't go there for whatever reason. Not that I think she would, but I've come so far, I need to focus on getting to LA without letting any negative thoughts enter into my head.

I felt better for a good sleep, if nothing else. Breakfast was good and now I'm working out how much a taxi back to the airport is going to cost. I don't even know when there might be a flight to LAX or how much it's gonna cost me, but I haven't got much other course of action. I'd love to stop a day in New York but I simply can't afford to - I'm on a tight enough budget as it is and I have no way to get any more money once mine has gone.

According to my watch, it's just gone ten o' clock New York time. Guess I'd better get hold of a cab and see what my next move is!
