1983:Unicorn and Pegasus Ponies

MEDLEY

Aqua green pegasus pony with green hair, glittering green music notes symbol

As a child growing up in the United Kingdom during the 1980s, there were few ponies that I loved better (or wanted more) than Medley. Champion of music and the one to put a stop to Firefly's more harebrained exploits, Medley drummed thunder on the clouds with her hooves and waved her tail to make music like a harp. As a kid I adored Medley for her quiet cleverness and quick thinking.

But, like with so many of the early ponies, Medley was no more than a fairy tale to me. Medley and her set were never released in the United Kingdom, although their frequent appearances in the comic suggest that at one point Hasbro did plan for their release. Most of Europe also had the set, but not here.

Medley was one of the first two Pegasus Ponies, and she featured briefly in the first pony TV special "Rescue at Midnight Castle" (later renamed Firefly's Adventure as a marketing ploy). She was also re-released with the 1984-5 set of Unicorn and Pegasus Ponies, but this time she had curly hair. Though most loose curly haired Medleys have long since lost their curl, they are recognisable by the fact they have much longer and often wavy locks than the original edition.
