1985: Unicorn and Pegasus Ponies

SURPRISE

White pegasus pony with neon yellow mane and tail, glittering purple and pink balloons symbol.

"SURPRIIIIISE!"

In the cartoon, a shriek of this nature would generally precede Surprise's entry onto the scene. In the UK comic she was not quite so bouncy and impulsive, but she was still fun loving and more than a little bit interested in balloons ;)

She was never sold in the UK and was never re-released in any other edition but this one. She had an extensive run as a comic character in the UK without ever appearing on store shelves, making her a popular acquisition among UK collectors when first starting out!

In fact, it was almost like the UK tried to compensate for Surprise's loss by introducing HONEYCOMB to the Britishline in 1986. The ponies shared body and hair colours, as well as eye colour, though the symbols differed and Honeycomb's hair was rod straight. Surprise was one of the curly haired ones, and though her curls often drop out, she is still distinguishable as such by the extra length of her hair. Even mint on card, her hair isn't all that curly!

Surprise was released as a So Soft pony as part of the first set of ponies in North America and Canada. The So Softs were NOT sold in the UK through official channels, though some have been found in specific areas of the country.
