1988: Sundae Best Ponies

CHERRY BERRY

Raspberry pink earth pony with neon yellow mane and tail, white and greenish aqua raised ice cream sundae symbol

Cherry Berry was the Sundae Best Pony whose interest was mainly in - you guessed it. Cherries. For some reason - I don't know why - she seems to be the most difficult of the set to find in good condition on the second hand market. That's a relative observation, though, since none of them are particularly difficult to find.

CHERRY BERRY'S MISTAKEN IDENTITY
(UK PONY COMIC)

In the UK Comic, the Sundae Best Ponies were first 'discovered' by Baby Bouncy (comic edition #88). Although Cherry Berry was the first Sundae Best Pony to be pictured in the comic, the name mix-up meant that she was introduced as 'Chocolate Chip' and it took a few weeks for the comic writers to catch up with Hasbro's correction bandwagon. As a result, the story mistakenly links her with chocolate - which must have proven very confusing for all children when they went shopping for new ponies!

In the North American release, Cherry Berry was known as " Crunch Berry ". She was misnamed on the UK insert under the name "Chocolate Chip ", which has caused any amount of confusion in the past...but this is her true identity.
