My Little Pony Television Commercials in the UK

Back in 1998, I traded for a VHS cassette of My Little Pony commercials from the USA. While these were super-interesting and brain-rottingly catchy to listen to, however, it made me sad that I did not know how or where to find a similar repository of commercials for the UK. The truth is, I don't remember any G1 pony commercials during my childhood. All the adverts I remember came from the comic.

But, thanks to the internet, over time, commercials for the UK release have begun to appear. Many can be found on Youtube, and where they exist, I am linking to these videos so that they connect to the people who originally shared them. I cannot guarantee whether those links will always be active, but I have included transcripts where possible to the jingles and text below.

The very first commercial for the UK appears to be for the (probably Flat Foot) Collector Ponies, which used abridged video media from the equivalent American commercial, and no jingle or music at all. This was followed by a commercial for earth ponies in 1984, which used more uniquely British media.

The first commercials are very simple. Those for 1985 and 1986 are very tongue in cheek, with several plays on words and jokes. From 1987, jingles appear - usually with the same tune as the American advert, but with slightly less cringy lyrics. Those sets from 1993 had a jingle based around, but not identical to, the theme to My Little Pony Tales.

While it is harder to find commercials in English from the UK, several European commercials survive from France and Germany. Many of these would have been the same in the UK, aside the language. There are even a few in Greek which help fill in the gaps - but this is just a flavour.

The girl did wonders with her tail and mane, and topped it off with a nice yellow hat.
"Now I feel better", said My Little Pony. "Coming for a ride?"
"Looks like we're all going for one," said Twinkles.

With ponies like these, thought My Little Pony, who needs a pot of gold?

"The stage door, of course," replied Posey. "I want to get their horsographs!"

Hairdo and Rollerskates Ponies (Circa 1993)

(This one is based on advert shown on the continent, which abridged together the Rollerskates and Hairdo Pony commercials. I have yet to find an English version of each of these separately, but the combined lines do seem to come from the UK commercials.
