The second set of adult Sea Ponies were released somewhere around
1985 in North America. There is a weird thing with this set in
that they seem to have been distributed heavily in Canada,
although they are not common in either regions. When they are
found, they are often in poor condition. White Cap and Sea Mist
are especially prone to nasty discolouration, which unfortunately
you will see on their pages here.
While the first set of Adult Sea Ponies in both North American and
UK iterations are relatively common second hand, this set are just
problems. Their shells are very hard to find. Their stickers are
literally like gold dust. I have only ever seen photos. Their
boxes are not that common either. I was lucky enough to get High
Tide with hers but they don't come up often. And, of course, they
were not sold in the UK.
The set introduced one new adult sea pony pose, 'looking
up', which was featured on three of the six. The other three
had the regular old pose, but each had a streak of colour in her
hair to compensate. They appeared in the animated special, Escape
from Catrina.
The weird thing about this set is that four of them were included
in the Fact File, which suggests Hasbro at least thought about a
release here. The two who do not appear are High Tide and Sand
Dollar (which is ironic, as I picked Sand Dollar up here at a UK
carboot sale...still don't quite know how that happened but I'm
not complaining, she's my favourite ;)
Sea Mist and White Cap also made a very late appearance in the
Pony Comic here in the UK, long after adult Sea Ponies were no
longer a thing. That appearance is mysterious but probably just
came from writers or artists delving into past promotional
material, rather than an intended release. Please note that on all pages Wave Jumper is not featured
in her own shell. I don't have it. She lives in a spare Sealight
shell for convenience, but it is NOT the same colour as hers,
which is a much lighter green clam, as depicted on the box
image, above.
