Baby Surprise in the United Kingdom

Although Baby Surprise was not sold in the UK, she did appear regularly in the early My Little Pony comics.

Baby Surprise in the United States

Baby Surprise was issued in a yellow box in North America, with an array of accessories befitting a 'play and care' set, although this set name was not used officially in the North American line. She was one of two baby pegasus introduced this year. A pearly version of Baby Surprise was also produced, in yellow.

Baby Surprise in Other Places

The American boxed (or translated versions of it) Baby Surprise were sold in other places around Europe. There was also a carded release featuring only a bottle as an accessory, which was sold in other parts of Europe, such as Scandinavia and Finland, as well as in Germany. This release continued into 1986 or beyond, and sometimes featured Baby Surprise with a painted symbol, instead of a glittery one. This release was definitely around in 1987, according to a German insert, and sometimes featured Baby Glory with a painted symbol, instead of a glittery one. She had no Pat. Pend on her hooves, which also indicates a later release. Some countries which had the carded release also had the boxed set in earlier years.

Baby Surprise's Character

Baby Surprise's backcard story is one of the more unusual stories that connected an adult pony with her offspring. It is her birthday, and she is celebrating with her friends. To begin with, balloons magically lift her up in the air, but then she is able to use them to help her learn to fly. This concept was also included in her fact file story, showing a direct influence from the North American characterisation. She appeared in the baby pony comic, often posed on her front hooves with her back hooves in the air (perhaps to indicate her exciteable personality). She also appeared in Escape from Catrina, as one of the baby ponies who played with Megan in 'Let's Not Take a Nap'.
