Confetti: A Bride or Not A Bride?

Despite her name and her symbol, Confetti did not excite a wedding theme in the North American release. This was left to the UK and Europe, where, in 1986, a version of Confetti was sold wearing a bridal outfit under the moniker "Wedding Bells."

The original release of Confetti, sold in North America and some parts of Europe (but not the UK) came in a different pose from the later wedding release, to match the style of the set. She was sold on the same horizontal card as the set in the first year, to which all the new characters had now been added.

Confetti in Other Places

Outside of her Wedding Bell release, Confetti was part of several European releases, where she was often found made in Italy or Spain. She was also available through subsequent horseshoe point mail in offers up to around 1986. Some anecdotal evidence suggests this set - on the US card - might have appeared in Sweden and Norway as well, possibly as end of line imports.

The Scandinavian/Australian/South African Rainbow Confetti

Confetti was sold in at least one of the Rainbow Pony releases in Scandinavia (at least, Sweden and Norway), South Africa and probably also Australia. This release happened probably around 1986-7, based on the design of the card. These cards were in English and the pony was made in Hong Kong. Her accessories are basically the same as the year 3 release, although there may be some subtle shade differences due to batch production.

Confetti's Character

In the UK fact file and her box story, Confetti was described as a bride preparing for her big day. In her backcard story in North America, however, she had a different persona, in which she created things from paper, such as toys and streamers. Her story describes her on an adventure with a paper doll, sliding down the rainbow. Although the doll does not appear in the comic, this iteration of Confetti feels more familiar from the UK comics as well - where she was never portrayed as an actual bride.
