Trickles in North America

Trickles was sold in North America as part of the second release of Rainbow Ponies, issued in around 1985. She used one of the new poses for the year, as well as having the updated, more daring colours in her hair. These Rainbow Ponies still had four colours, but were generally bolder in shade than the first six ponies had been. Trickles was sold on the same kind of horizontal card as those from the first set, but now there were ten ponies pictured instead of six.

Trickles was not sold in the United Kingdom, although she did appear in stories around 1986-7.

Trickles in Other Places

Trickles was part of several European releases, where she was often found made in Italy or Spain. She was also available through subsequent horseshoe point mail in offers up to around 1986. Some anecdotal evidence suggests this set - on the US card - might have appeared in Sweden and Norway as well, possibly as end of line imports.

The Scandinavian/Australian/South African Rainbow Trickles

Trickles was sold in at least one of the Rainbow Pony releases in Scandinavia (at least, Sweden and Norway), South Africa and probably also Australia. This release happened probably around 1986-7, based on the design of the card. These cards were in English and the pony was made in Hong Kong.

Versions of Trickles on Spanish and French versions of the card used for the European release both suggest a consistency of her accessories with the US release, albeit with slight shade differences. While this is not conclusive for the European release, we can speculate that the accessories were probably more or less the same in the HK release as in the Year 3, with some minor batch differences impacting the exact shade of the brush and comb.

Both versions of Spanish Trickles shown here have a light pink brush/brush and comb, rather than salmon pink - it is possible that other variations in the Spanish release exist.

Thanks to Shivhae for the French-carded image.

Both ponies pictured are made in Spain/no country of manufacture on hooves.

Trickles's Character

Trickles was often found gardening under the rainbow with her close friend Posey. While Posey was all about the flowers, Trickles had a magical watering can. When she watered the earth, bright coloured flowers would spring up and grow. Her backcard story in the US gives the impression of a playful personality.
