The Romance Ponies were another new introduction for 1992, and, as
the name suggests, their theme was everything Valentine. Although
they are largely thought of as a UK and European set (and they
are), there is some evidence that they might have been sold in
other parts of the world. They were not available in North
America, but my MOC Love Letter (shown below) has a price label in
Rand, indicating the set was available in South Africa. It is
possible they were also sold in Australia and New Zealand.
Love Letter Mint on Card
UK style card (South African priced), 1992 Palette: Powder Blue
This set was sold with long-handled combs, like those originally
available with the Brush & Grow
Ponies, and a basic ribbon.
All four of the ponies were earth ponies, although they were
originally presented with some differences from the set that was
eventually released. The image below comes from the 1992 insert,
but the same image was also used on pony backcards. In this image,
only Love Token is correctly depicted - Love Letter and Love Token
have swapped hair colours, and Love-in-a-Mist is a completely
different pose. The correct poses are shown at the top of the
page.
