Tootsie was only sold in the United Kingdom as part of the 1985 Earth Pony set. Although this name never appeared on the UK card, Hasbro UK's list for 1985 classifies this group as "Groom and Style Ponies". Tootsie was one of the straight and silky haired ponies from the set.
Although a second WHITE version of Tootsie was made and sold in Europe, sometimes on a UK style card, the GREEN version was the only edition of Tootsie to ever be sold in the UK.
Green Tootsie was also normal issue in North America. In the case of Tootsie, accessories differed between regions. In North America, she came with a pink butterfly brush, while in the UK release she had a pink moon and stars comb (see MIP images below). In the UK release of the Groom & Style Set, it was normal for curly haired ponies to have butterfly brushes and straight haired ponies to have moon and star combs, whilst in North America the whole set were more uniform, coming with butterfly brushes.
Tootsie was a popular pony that sold well, and is extremely common second-hand.
In Europe, versions of Tootsie made in other places (namely Spain and Italy) were also available, but these were not sold in the United Kingdom. These exist in both white (Italy) and green (Spain) varieties.
Although green Tootsie was nominally only sold in the 1985 set, she was apparently included in promotional material in Scandinavia as a member of the 1987 Pony Friendsset. She is not pictured on the card for this release, and it is unclear whether she was actually included or not at store level.
Tootsie was a kind-hearted pony, with a propensity for good fortune and an unusual trick - whenever she muddled her words, lollipops would appear. Her most well used catchphrase was 'pollipop latch'. She was especially popular with the baby ponies because of this skill - which she sometimes used by accident, but often used on purpose.
Tootsie was one of the six ponies chosen to be given a song in the "Seven Songs and a Story" record and cassette release in the UK in 1985-6.
