Bow-Tie in the United Kingdom

The 'Collector Pose' version of Bow-Tie was released in the United Kingdom and Europe as part of the 1985 Earth Pony set. While the Collector Pose itself is the oldest pony pose, this is the second release of Bow-Tie, following the  'Shy pose' version sold the year before. Although this name never appeared on the UK card, Hasbro UK's list for 1985 classifies this group as "Groom and Style Ponies". Unlike her predecessor in 1984, this new version of Bow-Tie featured curly hair. Like the previous issue, she had freckles on her cheeks.

This version of Bow Tie was also sold in various European countries, probably in around 1986, as part of the 1986 Earth Pony set.

Although a second release of Bow-Tie was also sold in North America in 1985, she was in the shy pose. This version had curly, not straight hair.

In the UK release of the Groom & Style Set, it was normal for curly haired ponies to have butterfly brushes and straight haired ponies to have moon and star combs, whilst in North America the whole set were more uniform, coming with butterfly brushes. Bow-Tie's accessories were uniform between the two regions, despite the change in pose.

Bow-Tie was a popular pony that sold well, and is extremely common second-hand.Bow Tie appeared on quite a lot of merchandise around this time. She was a plush pony and also a Pyjama Case, which was made by Telitoy and issued exclusively here in the UK.

In Europe, versions of Bow-Tie made in other places (namely Spain, Italy and France) were also available, but these were not sold in the United Kingdom. This version of Bow Tie (made in Hong Kong) was also sold in Germany on a card with ponies from the 1986 set pictured. This release does not name Bow Tie, merely calling her Mein Kleines Pony, and may have been sold in 1987.

Bow-Tie's Character

Bow Tie loved to style hair, and was often drawn with elaborate ribbons and braids in her mane or tail. She liked to visit Peachy's Grooming Parlour. She was friends with Applejack and often helped her out. On one occasion she tied a ribbon in Spike's tail because she thought it might help him to fly. (It didn't, but she might just have been trying to cheer him up).

Bow-Tie was one of the six ponies chosen to be given a song in the "Seven Songs and a Story" record and cassette release in the UK in 1985-6.
