Starlight

 Starlight was one of the characters from the core Seven Character set which were released in the UK and in Europe in 1993. She was also sold in this fancier 'Hairdo' edition in the same year, and the theme may be connected to the fact her mother ran a hair salon in the animated series. She had long hair and two twisty plastic ties with which her hair could be styled. She also now had a dark pink streak in her hair and a pearly sheen.

These ponies came with a unique style of comb, which was a mirror as well as a hair pick. Starlight had a pink comb. This was definitely given away as a comic free gift as my sister and I both have pink combs from the comic rather than from the pony (which was obtained second-hand).

The Hairdo Pony boxes claim that a ribbon is also included, but I have no recollection of having a ribbon with either of my ponies - nor is one visible in the box of those I have seen Mint in Package.

The most logical explanation for this is that Hasbro saw the bow on the end of the mane bendy/twisty as a 'ribbon' and thus a separate accessory in the release.

Starlight's Character

Starlight featured excessively in the later comics and the My Little Pony Tales animated series, although she was never drawn or animated with the coloured streak in her hair. This version of Starlight was only found on the back of the Hairdo pony box, which was also the only time she interacted with the other ponies from this set.
