Twilight in North America

Twilight was sold in the original set of unicorn and pegasus ponies in 1984, but was not rereleased in the second set. In spite of this, there are some batch variants of Twilight which are quite significant in colouration difference. The more common version of Twilight is generally considered to be the darker pink body, although she was often depicted in media with lighter colouring. The pale pink version shown here was also sold in North America, and is a Hong Kong release version as well.

Twilight came with a blue shooting star brush and ribbon, and a puffy sticker.

Twilight in the United Kingdom

Twilight was not sold in the United Kingdom, although she featured in early pony stories, comics and merchandise over here.

Twilight's Character

Rescue at Midnight Castle hints at Twilight's ability to teleport ("wink") in and out, by using some kind of 'wishing' magic. This wishing magic also features on her US backcard. It is not well explored in the animation, but in the UK story lore, Twilight had a more defined character.

Twilight appeared in early stories as a shy reclusive unicorn, who kept herself to herself, and shielded herself often in a cloud of mist. She was considered very knowledgeable about magic, and kind, so would help out when the ponies were in trouble - but they usually had to go to her, not the other way around.

Although she is nominally the inspiration for Generation 4's "Twilight Sparkle", they have absolutely nothing in common except part of the name.
