Sweet Notes

Sweet Notes was one of the earth ponies in the Rockin' Beat/Rocking Beat release. She was sold with a guitar brush with a gold strap and a ribbon. She was available in North America in 1991 and the UK and Europe in 1992.

The Rockin' Beat set is the only full set I had from new as a child, and I still have all their original backcards. They retailed for £5.99 in Woolworths in 1992. I know that I received Sweet Notes for Easter that year, which helps put this set in the first half of 1992.

Sweet Notes was released with intentionally crimped hair. She was not the only pony to be sold with crimped hair throughout the line, but she was probably the first one to feature this style gimmick.

Sweet Notes's Character

Sweet Notes was the singer character from the Rocking Beats, and according to her backcard story, she had an exceptionally sweet voice. This role was usurped by Melody in the My Little Pony Tales series, where she was relegated to being just a backing guitarist. This is a bit ironic given that the focal point of her original character was as a vocal soloist.
